Surroundings and excursion destinations

A small extract of the many possibilities with us

Nassfeld

In the immediate surrounding (about 15 minutes by car) of our holiday house is the largest ski area of the Southern Alps: The Nassfeld! More than 30 cable cars and lifts and over 100 downhill kilometres, the longest single-cable orbit in Europe and the longest valley run are offered by the skiing area. A paradise for all winter sports fans. In summer the Nassfeld is also a very beautiful destination for hikers and nature lovers.

Pressegger See

Lake Pressegger See (approx. 5 minutes by car) is located on the municipal territory of Hermagor and is a very popular swimming lake. Crystal clear water and beautiful grasslands offer enough space and possibilities for a nice, sunny bathing day. With an area of 55 hectares it is the 9th largest lake and also the warmest bathing lake in Carinthia. The natural Pressegger lake is surrounded by mountains, forests and fields. With water temperatures up to 28°C the "Bathtub of the Gailtal" is one of the warmest lakes in Austria. Apart from its warmth, Lake Pressegger See is particularly attractive because of the quality of its drinking water, which guarantees you a bathing holiday in one of the purest waters.

The 1st Carinthian Adventure Park is located directly at the lake, which makes children's hearts beat faster with its various attractions. And in the family-friendly beaches, pedal boats are available for hire. For relaxation there are beautiful, large green areas at the lake. In addition, walking paths and Nordic walking routes await you here. Those who want to spoil themselves with culinary delights will find various restaurants and pubs around the lake.

St. Steben

The little church of St. Steben, first mentioned in a document in 1466, is located on a mountain ledge high above Köstendorf at an altitude of 1003 m above sea level.

The pilgrimage church is a popular hiking destination. From there, visitors are offered a wonderful view over the Gailtal.

Traditionally, numerous visitors have made a pilgrimage to St. Steben on Easter Monday for years. A mass is held here every year. The Köstendorf volunteer fire brigade treats visitors to drinks and delicious food from the grill afterwards.

Wörthersee

Lake Wörthersee (approx. 40 minutes by car) is the largest lake in Carinthia with an area of 19.39 km² and at the same time one of the warmest alpine lakes due to its climatic location.

The lake extends from the Veldener Bucht to Klagenfurt.

Around the lake there are numerous excursion destinations. These include the Pyramidenkogel observation tower, the famous castle on Lake Wörthersee in Velden and much more.

Köstendorf

Our house is beautifully and quietly located at the outskirts of Köstendorf, the second largest village in the community of St. Stefan in the Gailtal, at an altitude of 670 meters above sea level.

The village Köstendorf belongs to the district Hermagor in Carinthia, Austria.
